Die Welt von Ashley Hicklin Welt hat etwas Kulissenartiges – eigenwillig, verschnörkelt und facettenreich. Ashley wuchs in Scarborough auf, einer kleinen Hafenstadt an der Nordküste Englands. Seine Eltern veranstalteten dort als Inhaber einer Kneipe regelmäßig Open-Mic Abende und Ashley Hicklin nutzte schon als Teenager die Gelegenheit, um dort mit Musikern unterschiedlichster Couleur und jeden Alters zu jammen.

Spätestens seitdem die BBC eines seiner Konzerte ausgestrahlt hat, ist Ashley Hicklin kein Unbekannter mehr. Gesehen hatte diesen Mitschnitt auch Peter Ende, damals noch Chef von EMI Publishing Europe, der den jungen Künstler umgehend unter Vertrag nahm. In weniger als einem Jahr hatte Ashley seinen ersten Nummer Eins Hit in Schweden komponiert und mit vielen weiteren Stars und Songwritern zusammen gearbeitet. Als Co-Writer des belgischen Beitrags zum Eurovision Song Contest 2010, Tom Dice „Me and my guitar“, den auch Deutschland mit 12 Punkten honorierte, gehört Ashley derzeit zu den Top-Kreativen der Szene. Schwer zu glauben, das Ashley erst vierundzwanzig Jahre alt ist.

Während er in Deutschland für andere Künstler schrieb, wurde Ashley dem Hamburger Produzenten Franz Plasa vorgestellt. Sie verstanden sich auf Anhieb.

„Parrysland“ ist der Titel seines Debüts als Solo-Künstler, ein Album, dessen Songs auf einer Reihe turbulenter Beziehungen basieren. „Beziehungen beginnen immer wie im Märchen und dann endet meistens irgendwann alles im Chaos. Liebe ist Anarchie.“, sagt Ashley Hicklin. Ein Pop-Album mit hinreißender Tiefe.

Wie für jeden Vollblutmusiker ist die Bühne der Ort für Ashley Hicklin, an dem er sich am wohlsten fühlt. „Dort bin ich wie ein wildes Kind, das sich ganz seinen Emotionen hingeben kann.“ Da kann es dann schon einmal vorkommen, dass er (O-Ton Ashley) „wie ein Fünfjähriger über die Bühne tanzt“. Davon können sich auch die Besucher der diesjährigen Ich & Ich – Tour überzeugen, die Ashley als alleiniger Support mit kompletter Band im Vorprogramm begleiten wird. Auf Solotour wird er ab November in Deutschland zu erleben sein.

There is something quirky about Ashley Hicklin's little world. Hidden in the cabin of an old sail-boat in Hamburg's harbour is a creative home somewhat fitting for such a distinctive voice. It's an enchanting setting thats certainly added a unique twist to his debut album Parrysland.

The roots of this nautical theme go deeper - He was raised on open-mic nights in his parents bar on the North-East Coast of England, and first picked up the guitar, piano and drums in his early teens. After rocking-out in punk and brit-pop bands, he then turned to classical music, going on to compose works for World-renowned ensembles such as London Sinfonietta. Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall were followed by many months touring up and down the UK as a Folk-Pop singer-songwriter ("in the most orange camper van known to man").

He swiftly made a name for himself as the 'Bright Young Thing' from the North, and the BBC soon invited him into their TV studios. The live video broadcast created an immediate buzz in the music industry, and among those who approached him was Peter Ende, the CEO of EMI Publishing Europe. In less than a year after signing, Ashley had written his first number one single for Swedish Idol's Johan Palm, Belgium's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest (another number one single) and a host of other chart hits for major artists across Europe (working with the teams behind Skunk Anansie, Leona Lewis, James Morrison, Marit Larsen, Amy Winehouse, Sugababes, etc. - "basically a lot of cool cats"). Its hard to believe that he's still only 24 years young.

Whilst writing in Germany for other artists, Ashley was introduced to acclaimed producer Franz Plasa (Echt, Selig). They immediately clicked and started to record the foundations of Parrysland. A record deal with Ferryhouse Productions and Warner Music followed suit, and Ashley relocated to Hamburg to work closely with his ever-growing team. A series of gigs and media showcases ensued, from intimate solo concerts to full nine-piece band affairs featuring his raucous string quartet. The debut album 'Parrysland' will hit stores Autumn 2010, alongside an outdoor arena tour supporting one of Germany's biggest acts 'Ich + Ich'.
